THANK YOU CHRIS!!!
I have really learned a lot from watching your videos. I thought I was a fairly decent painter but now I see where I have made mistakes and subsequently made the job more difficult.
OK....I will be painting four bedrooms and hallway of the house I just purchased. The ceiling will be one color while the walls another and the trim a third color. If I have understood your instructions correctly I will...roll the ceiling with flat paint then spray the trim with semi-gloss...then roll the walls with satin.
I assume the ceilings and walls will take two coats rolled with a 3/8 nap roller.....will the doors and other trim cover with just one coat of semi gloss as I will be spraying them?
Thanks,
Chris -
How about when you have crown molding, what would you do first using an airless sprayer?
I appreciate your tips.
thank you! -
Great video with super cool tips. Thanks Chris!

I just finished a full basement. sprayed walls one coat, then crown, trim, doors, two coats, then brushed and rolled last coat on walls. then because of low ceilings, I covered walls with plastic and 9" paper on crown, sprayed master hide flat on to ceilings. this is because semi gloss ended up on the ceiling from crown and door spraying. three days, two guys, 1000 Sq ft. lots of plastic and paper, but fast. thanks for the tips chris! my helper is 50 and has only ever brushed and rolled and didn't believe we could get it done in less than a week. your videos are invaluable!

I have a textured ceiling that will be painted flat white. walls and trim are each different colors/finishes. I have an airless sprayer. What would you recommend as the best sequence to painting all of this?
Also, thank you for all of your videos. You are a HUGE help, and I appreciate you. -
Too bad I didn't listen sooner because I purchased a semigloss for my ceiling. My hired handy painter (not professional/but experienced) is going to use an airless sprayer.

Thank you for all the good pointers. What type of primer do you use to cover bare wood trim and do you also spray your primer?
-
Chris, I have a question and maybe you have a video on this and if so, please point me in the right direction. My question is with flat ceiling and flat walls that are different colors, would you also spray the walls or continue to roll them. My paint is Pro Classic, semi gloss for trim; harmony, flat for walls; and essence for the ceiling. Thanks!Chris

I am really enjoying your videos, but on this one the title seems to be misleading. This video is more about spraying vs rolling.

After taking off the lacquer finish via sanding and acetone on my trim and wood doors, I am ready to paint them with a primer. Because I am also painting the walls, in which I did patch work with nicks and holes, it also will receive a primer. I am going to spray the primer on the trim and walls at the same time with SW Wall & Wood Primer. Can I use a 515 tip on the whole process or should I always use a 310 tip because of the trim?

Hi I have been fallowing your videos and tips since I start my painting business I do more apartments turnovers which on a normal day is spray on walls and doors and brush on baseboard but I want to starts doing houses and my question is, I'm pretty sure you spray the doors but you remove them for spray or leave them in place for spray and cover them before rolling the walls?
Thank you for what you do keep it up! -
The Idaho Painter kept me from making some big mistakes. Thank you, and I think your videos are wonderful.

Hello, I'm just starting my painting business and have used brushes and rollers everytime. I was wondering do you use a sprayer most of the time and if so what weather conditions are good...is a breeze outside bad to be spraying? I know its saves time and money..oh yeah, i work buy myself so that is a factor also. I am a little nervous about them. Thanks and any advice for a up coming painter would be great.

How wood crown molding affect your painting steps with 3 coors?
Thanks Jim -
Hey got a question, let me give you the scenario first:
New construction residence with flat ceiling, sheet rock walls, and heavy trim, and stained wood floor…4 colors
The question…
1. is it best to do all of the wall, ceiling, and trim painting first and then install flooring and finish it?…if so how do you keep stain off the floor trim…..
or
2. Install floor but do not finish and do all wall, ceiling, and trim finishing and do floor last?…again how to keep stain off floor trim and sander off floor trim
or
3. Stain and finish floor prior to floor trim install, of course what to do with door trim
what are your thoughts and current methods?
Thanks JIm -
On your trim I assume u use the airless and not hvlp.. Do you use water based gloss for ease of clean up? I only spray oil based gloss with hvlp as clean up easier.
-
This is an awesome video! Thank you!
-
I am so confused now. In another video you mentioned that you "always" spray the trims "first".
-
If you normally paint latex over trim then you're most likely are running into the situation of painting waterbase over oil base. Do you do any special prep other than dusting off the baseboards and trim to ensure good adhesion between the latex and oil?
