I made a rather long video last year demonstrating how I searched for and found a few holes in my above ground pool liner using my pressure-pump weed sprayer with some water dyed with food colouring. In late-June -- Winter here in Australia -- the pool developed quite a bad leak. I still have no idea why as no-one had been in it for over a month. Maybe the cold weather and/or water caused the liner to shrink or stretch or something. Anyway, I used the same method again to test a few potential holes and around my previous patches and discovered the main culprit. Actually, I could have found it without the food dye. It was a nasty leak. Because it was Winter and the water was really, really cold I figured if I could insulate myself from the wetness of the cold water, it would reduce the impact of cold water. Over my board shorts I put on a garbage bag and then covered that with cling wrap up to my chest. It worked!!! I'd been in the pool about a month earlier when the water wasn't as cold and this was far more comfortable than it was then. Weird outfit or not I wanted to do a shorter update to the previous video, so I grabbed the camera and went back in. Please don't comment that the video is a fail because the hole is obvious. I know! But, it wasn't the only place I checked for leaks. I used both hands when doing the actual patching, so no video, sorry. What I tried to explain in the video was that to avoid putting my head under water, swimming to the bottom and applying the patch with my hands, I quickly dipped the rubber-cement loaded patch under the water under my lifted foot and pushed it down to the bottom with my toes and then used my feet to press it down. It worked near perfectly first time and I was really pleased. It's been about six weeks since I applied the patch and it seems to be working fine.
