Spray Gun Technique, Small Shop Spray Painting Part VII
Tricks, Ratschläge, Online, Reparieren, Landwirtschaft, Landwirtschaft Maschine
This is the second upload of this video . . . I had to fix the audio issue. This is the Seventh in my series for the novice spray painter. Here I explain what everyone needs to know on how to handle a spray gun. This video can be useful to both the woodworker and budding auto body painter. I certainly welcome any questions or comments. Hey I might start at a boat finishing job. What are the ratios in the paint for the different coats for a boat hull?
-
I'm spraying edges too so I want paint to be light and spray to cover smaller area. How do I adjust the spray gun for this?

I want to spray my kitchen cabinets with BM satin impervo oil based paint and was wondering if it is possible to get a decent finish with a detail spray gun. I only have a 2 hp compressor and can not afford a HLVP system. Have you ever clear coated oil based paint with an oil based varnish to give it more durability?

I just cannot believe that I have learned so much of what I'm doing wrong in so short a time.
Painted the same thing 4 times over and still not good enought for me.
Going to try your techniques tonight.
Thanks a mil.
Liked your music.... My style. -

If my memory serves me correctly, I used Sherwin Williams black gloss and
their clear on this project. With that said, I just finished building a
bed and wanted it to match the other cabinets from this video. I primed
with SW wall and woodwork primer and sanded to 220 with and orbital
sander. Two coats of Krylon black gloss were applied. I then sprayed
several coats of Minwax Polycrylic gloss clear and it got what I would call
a micro craze. After allowing this mess to dry for several days, I sanded
it down again and re-sprayed the craze/fine lifting came back in several
spots. I'm attempting to salvage by sanding and polishing. What did I
learn? Stick with Sherwin Williams paints. Another contributing factor
may have been temperature. It's been very cold and I use propane to heat
my garage just during the day when I am going to work out there. Anyhow,
the cabinets from this video came out great and I've had many good
comments. My best advise is for you to do a small test panel before
spraying your project -

5. I use about 30-40 lbs at the gun with the trigger pulled. 6. I clean the fluid tip between coats. 7. I'll often add some XIM Latex Extender to help with the flow.
-
A guy e-mailed me with an issue of the gun spattering. The following was my answer and if any of you can ad to it please let me know. 1. Did you remove the small strainer in the bottom of the cup? It restricts flow and clogs very quickly. If you strain the paint, it isn't needed. 2. Is the fluid knob turned all the way out? 3. Is the fluid tip tight so that it won't suck air in around the edges. 4. When you installed the 2mm tip, did you also install the matching needle.

In my really stupid younger days I would spray lacquer with no respirator and a cigarette hanging out of my mouth. After about 10 years of spraying cars, I started getting sick every time I walked into our make-shift booth and quit. By the way, I did wise up and buy a proper respirator for my DIY spraying which only occurs several times a year.

Thanks much for your positive comment.

Very good info, thank you much for being such a professional.

hey im going to paint a MDF board and im wondering what type of primer and paint should i use?i've heard that many people use an acrylic base painting. i also wanted to know how should i setup my air compressor? pressure?etc!!
-
That all depends on what you want to spray and how often. I only spray things maybe five or six times a year. So all I need is a decent compressor and an HVLP gun.
