Awesome! I can't wait to try! Thank you for taking the time to do this video :)

This is so helpful! I'll definitely give it a try. I just started skiing yesterday. The instructor wasn't really able to teach us how to turn on a baby slope. The whole time he just told us to to snowplow and then turn one heel out. Not sure how accurate that is!

Beginner trying to learn a few basics before my first lesson tomorrow. These basic principles helped me understand what I've seen good skiers do but I couldn't quantify it. Thanks for making the video.

Nice vid, nice try. Still u shoulnt assume an average person can learn proper parallel turns within one day. Why do people believe they can get away without proper instructions? Greetings from an instructor from Austria

It's clear to see you're probably a very nice skier, and you've been skiing for 45 years I see. Are you an instructor too? I'm not so sure you can take a new skier and make them a parallel skier in a day though. Also, when you talk about "coming up" and "going down", we use the words "extending" and "flexing", but in layman terms where necessary. When "coming up", there's always the danger that a newer skier learning parallel will also release the pressure from the tongue of the boot, which will completely negate the ability to turn both skis and effect any semblance of a parallel turn ... so there's a lot of stuff here that could seem confusing once someone actually tries it on snow. As an instructor, I often have my students take their skis off and go through the fundamental movements just in their boots first before attempting it while moving on skis. Whether on snow or on carpet, it is indeed a great way to isolate some movements. Thanks for posting anyway, but I'd be wary of those $10 rear entry boots out in the cold: the plastic is old now and could break, and rear-entry boots have less flex and fewer small adjustments that can be made to fit the foot better. Good price though :)

Hey Harald your vids are complete shit this video is more logical than any if yours and your vids retard your progression
-
This is total BS , sorry, but this is crap, it will retard your skiing and progress.
-
excellent video, might not be the standard or modern way of teaching nowadays, but is more logical and clear than most videos I watched. Thanks a lot.

No, I'm not afraid of the cold. I've been skiing 45 years and skied in every Western state. The $300 pair of Nordica boots I got for $10 at Goodwill are the best fit l've ever had. Why are instructors so negative now days? I think I know why.

Great for skiing from the summit of your living room. Boots and poles from a Goodwill store for all of $10.00 and now he is an expert ski instructor, LMAO! Sorry about the negative feedback being that I am an instructor. You're not afraid of being out in the cold with actual skis on real snow are you?

David... We haven't taught this style of parallel turn in 20 years. Today's modern parallel turn is continuously weighted and led by the INSIDE ski guiding/edging, with which the outside ski will naturally follow. The skier making modern turns will generally not use the abdominals to generate steering power but the torque generated by the active inside ski transferring power across the pelvic girdle to the outside. You would also need to mention that steering and edging (tipping) are the same movement, but on different planes with the femur rotating in the hip socket.
Beginners learning the modern turn will not have to relearn (or unlearn) anything, but make small adjustments as their skill level, confidence and speed increases. -
Great video! I like the fact that you explain the whole process of a turn indoor and not on a hill were it happens to fast to see the movements clearly. Thx!!

Very clear! Thank you.
