Shop Update - HVLP Sprayers and Latex Paint
Tricks, Ratschläge, Online, Reparieren, Landwirtschaft, Landwirtschaft Maschine
In this shop update I get to test a cool new sprayer I received from HomeRight, as well as go over a little about HVLP sprayers in general. I also got to go to the lumber yard and found some reclaimed wood that is just waiting for a project. So perky! I admire people who look so upbeat and make you want to watch their videos. Not to mention the content and the quality of video production. I need to get some coffee and start. : )

a compressor and a spray gun is still better option than those electric sprayers. first of all you can run all sorts of tools with a compressor, like air gun, sandblasters, rotary tools etc. second, you dob't need a big compressor for woodworking. the CFM rating comes into the account when you have large panels, like cars and vehicles. I can spray kitchen tables with a 4 CFM compressor and a 9 CFM HVLP gun with no problem. Yes it does kick on quite often, but my pressure doesn't drop below 70 psi even if I am spraying for longer periods. plus the gun cleanup is easier, because you don't have to watch solvents getting into the motor or adjacent parts.

I just found your channel doing a search on that Finish Max Fine Finish HVLP Sprayer and ended up sub'ing both of your channels because I like your videos! Looking forward to seeing more and checking out your other channel.
-
can I use waterbased primer and what do you use for cleanup, thanks.
-
I'm so glad that I found your channels, Linn. Thanks for the great tips and the explanations on different stuff, you are very inspiring. Keep up with the good work!!
-
Well, you sold me on airless sprayers and probably HomeRight after I do my homework on them. Thanks.
-
I wish I had a place like that too. All I can get is framing lumber from pine or spruce.. ! :/

How does the HomeRight sprayer compare to the Graco as far as weight? I have used my fathers Graco and I find it to be very heavy. It also seems to go through the full paint cup rather quickly.

Linn your spray gun looks like a binks model the fluid nozzle and air cap can be changed to spray latex paint also flood makes penetrol to use for oil base paints and varnishes both products are conditioners that make the paints slick which
doesn't thin the solids of your paint . -
I liked to see your hand router in action. That´s an interesting antique tool. Looking forward next friday project. Thanks for sharing.
-
Linn, you are lovely.
-
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the sprayers. I might get one now. Can you tell us how close you had to have the sprayer to the wood to use it?
-
Wondeful video and awesome tips Linn! :-D How do you determine how thin your paint, stain, varnish, etc. needs to be for good coverage whenusing a sprayer? I don't have much experience with them, and am really looking for a good "rule of thumb" as I was given an 'airless' HVLP sprayer this Christmas.

I picked up a Wagner HVLP a few months ago, but I am so used to doing my finishes by hand that I keep forgetting to give it a try. I supposed that it doesn't help that it is still sitting in my room instead of in my shop.

Sometimes I make wood pieces that interlock and so I paint them separately. But when I use latex paint the piece creaks which the two interlocking parts rub together (as if I had covered each piece in a balloon!). What kind of paint/stain/protection should I use for interlocking wood pieces (which won't be glued)?

well done, and thanks Sterling !

Hey Linn, I would love it to have such a shop nearby, but unfortunately...
What was that steam in the back while you were painting?
Greetings, Daniel. -
