Roland TR-808 vs Korg Volca Beats
Tricks, Ratschläge, Online, Reparieren, Landwirtschaft, Landwirtschaft Maschine
I noticed there was no TR-808 / Volca Beats comparison on YouTube, so I thought of posting one for today's daily video. I know, I know... it's sort of a silly endeavor and also a bit unfair to compare a mega-classic that these days goes for $3K to a super-cute little $150 box... but I think both machines are great and each has their own unique character! I have to say, I am impressed by the whole Volca line (I recently got all four models and will be posting videos of the others soon). The bass drum on the Volca Beats is amazing, by the way!

The snare on the volca is actually good. You have it too snappy. You can actually adjust that. Also you can deepen that kick a lot more.
-
Roland.
-
terrible... this korg machine suxx
-
how about sampling the 808 library with the volca sampler that's what everyone else does nowadays
-
They're both ok, but neither compare to the original TR-8 which I have.
-
oh come on now, this is just unfair ;)

non capisco questo test! In confronto alla tr la volca è una scoreggia...specie nel timbro di rullante...poi ...non ha il clap la volca?
Comunque grazie lo stesso per il video..Paolo -
WTFF u cant even compare them!

Dont forcet to consider the difference in build quality. what happens when your friends stumble on your cables at the party and the line out cable goes to a surface mount headphone jack? I had a toy quality Korg monotrons and theres no reason to believe Volca is manufactured differently. I soldered the jack back on two times and after that mounted it on a piece of wood with things for the cable to go through before reaching the precious smd-components toy motherboard of the KORG toy. The difference between todays smd electronics and yesterdays full scale components designs where every resistor or transistor or capacitor could be changed is this: Toy or buying an investment for a large part of your life and then sell it for the second hand price. Yes toy builds might sound great but dont bring them to a live performance if youre not willing to fight off people with sword. Real desl is real deal. As a comparison my friend spilled almost an entire been on to my technichs 1200. I had to open it and clean it and I changed the fader. Buy cheap stuff but dont exept them to last.

The Snare on the Volca is the deal breaker. Too bad. Yuck!
-
Yep, You can't beat the 808 :)
-
What's that horrible noise that sounds like a plastic pipe being hit with a hammer? I think it might be the 'snare' on the Volca.
-
But you also must remember that you couldn't give away your 808 back in the day! Us humans are so very silly creatures! X-D

I love the 808, but have to be honest, it was an unfair comparison. #1 the beats used were written on a 808 and we have all been listening to them for 30+ years lol. I think that the bang for the buck award goes to the little $159 box. t amazes me that they can make something that sounds that good for so cheap. IF they would put it in a metal box, give it more pattern memory, and individual outs, it would compete with most modern machines out there.
