Roland AIRA MX-1 and Ableton Live

Curious if I can use the audio card in the Mix-1 to export final mixed / mastered audio from Ableton rather than my current audio interface. What's the quality like if so?

using the mx1 in external mode like this, can you setup the system 1 to receive midi info via the usb

I have everything routed the same as you but am getting a very low volume input on the TR-8 coming into USB 1 through MX1 and Ableton. I have the volume on the TR8 maxed and on USB1 maxed on MX1 and still only coming in around -24db on the ableton track. Have all input/output routings exactly as you do. I have tried my headphones on just the TR8 and it is way louder than when coming out of Ableton and MX1.......Any advice?

Thanks for making this video...the mx 1 with ableton is a bit tricky but you gave some vital insights. One thing I struggled with was that ableton wasn't recognising my mx 1 in mix mode (I have some other synths I need to use) but when I restarted the Mac it showed up and from what you explained not only got the PC channel to work but used a few of the USB channels. One thing I don't seem to get to work is the midi sync? If I'm in mix mode and put the mx 1 in 'pc' instead of int the midi clock doesn't seem to change on the other gear...so is there a way to get the mx 1 to send midi clock to ableton (in mix mode)?

Reiche, thanks for all of your videos on the MX-1, just bought one and saved me a lot of time setting it up in EXT mode. Have you been successful in connecting the MX-1 to Ableton in Surface mode. Once I have recorded everything into Ableton I was hoping to use Surface mode to adjust levels as the track progresses. When I have tried this the MX-1 has no effect on Ableton. Again thanks for all your posts on this.

Hey Chris... Just got my MX-1, and I want to use it with Ableton, but not like you're showing. I have an APC 40 too. I want to use my laptop and APC40 as an external instrument that routes into one of my channels on the MX1, this way I can trigger samples with my '40 but lead the mix with my MX-1. How can I do that do it synchs to midi but does not map to all of ableton?

I've been searching all day to find out if I could use unused AIRA usb ports for ableton in the normal mode and your video was the only answer I found. I can commit to the purchase now which is great.

Do you still use abletons sends? And have you had any problem with the send and return on the mx 1?

I can listen the PC in the channel 18(pc) , but I have no incoming audio when I select ext in 17/18 on the audio track of ableton.

I´m not sure if I´ve grabbed the complete understanding of the different mixing modes on MX-1. I want to use the MX-1 for TR-8,TB-3, System-1 and VT-3 with Ableton 9.5 Live/push. I also have a Korg X50 and a Volca Keys connected to my MX-1.

First I thought just using the Ableton as another instrument connected via the pc-channel (alternative A). Then, it occurred to me I´d might want to record from the Aira gear into Ableton as well (Alternative B).
(For now I am happy with the Korgs as pure input to the mix (and not to Ableton)).

Sometimes I take the Ableton away and work with the Aira/Korgs alone (alternative C).

What MX-1 Mixer mode should I apply to the different set ups?

I have a problem Reiche. I have my MX-1 in EXT mode. TR-8 connected to USB 1. I want to play a warped mp3 in Ableton and sync the MX-1 to it so the beats are perfectly in time. It's always out of sync. I adjust the latency under MIDI, Track Delay and Audio, and it is still out of sync. Have I missed something?

I want it so I press start on the MX-1, Mp3 plays in Ableton, TR-8 starts, both are in time.

Is it the MX-1 Sync mode? PC or Int?

Any tips?

Just one question Does Roland and other Companies truly believe that Ableton is the only DAW in existence ? !!

Since I am using MX1, TR8, TB3, VT3, Virus TI, Avalon Bassline with Ableton. The only thing that works is to use Live as the master sequencer with MX1 in Mixer Mode, PC Sync, at 48000 sample rate, and 128 sample buffer. Also right now the TR8 is the only Aira machine that is connect via Aira link, because there might be a USB bottleneck. The TB3 kept stopping with Aira link which is bullshit, but at least with this current set up I finally got it tight enough. I am using the open USB channels as additional channels for Ableton tracks.

hi reiche, thanks, my mx-1 is in external mode, i hear all the computer sounds of my laptop on my speakers, but, with today, its the 4 day i was trie to ear my tr-8 in mx-1, but nothing!!!i dont know what to do more...my ableton is the 9 lite, i think its difrent from yours, because my external instruments is on user library, and wen i trie drag it, like you do, nothing happen....jesus, i have the mx-1, tr-8, tb-3, vt-3, focal alpha 80, and my sinth jd-xa waiting, only for this shit!!!!why its so dificult this simple step???im veeeery nervous, do you imagine, 4 days in front of ableton and i just cant do anything!!!!!and the worst, there is noboby around me, who knows this kind of tecnical stuff.....if you can give me some kind of help, i really apreciate, because i dont know what to do more...thanks!!!

hi!i need your help please!i dont understand everything you say because im portuguese, so, i have to press the gain button and turn it on with the mx-1 and press the tone button, but next i dont understand what do you say with turn to the right, to external, because i dont know where is the button to turn to the external mode, because i dont see the word "external" on my mx-1...apreciate if you can help me, thanks!!
