Reusing Spray Foam Cans - Tips & Tricks

After use, "Great Stuff" spray foam often seals itself and the can is no longer usable. With a bit of care you can reopen the tubes and nozzles so you can use the remainder of the can later. Really helpful video! This stuff is not cheap and I only needed a bit to do some small home fixes. Now I don't have to throw the rest away. Thanks!

Thank you! If you do not mind, I have another hint for your viewers. Make sure a can off the shelf has an applicator thing attached to the side of the can! People rip them off. It's easy to overlook. Clean and keep those stupid straws for future use.

Great tips. Thank you.

Yup, and your wife comes in and slaps you up against the head !

Maybe you have covered this in another video but I've also found spraying the surfaces and the foam with a light mist of water helps it stick and expand further

I almost didn't buy the Great Stuff because I only needed a little and didn't want to waste the money on a full can and having to throw most away. UNTIL I remembered your video (this one). I bought the can used a little as needed then followed your advice here. I have since used small quantities of the can several times and it sits on the shelf ready to use again and again until the gas is gone!!
Thank you very much Ron! -
To all the guy's out there, you can stop by A Goodwill Store and in the housewares section they have bin's of steak knives that you can buy for sometimes A dime apiece. All that's wrong with them is the remains of spray foam on them!!

Can you use this for insulating outside pvc pipes to keep from freezing??

That ending made me laugh so hard, as a married man I guess it was easy to relate. :-) thanks for the tips, I have to use a can for patching holes in teh garage ceiling, but wanted to basically map out an entire cans worth of spots before I started because I have never had a can usable more than once. I will be trying these out very soon.
I also have to admit I was really hoping you would have damaged the nozzle with the screw so I could see the foam spray everywhere, but still I am happy it didn't and I was able to learn a new money saving technique. -
Ron, I use acetone to clean the can's nozzle and the applicator tube. Simply pour a small amount down the nozzle and the uncured foam dissolves instantly. Same for the applicator -- pour down the tube to dissolve the foam. This works best before the foam has cured.
