Paint your car

As an enthusiast I bought a Lexus GS400 that needed body work and painting. I love doing what I do. Cars are my passion. I went to an auto body supply shop to buy primer, paint, sand papers, epoxy, filler, etc. Went to Home Depot and bought an Electric Spray gun for small and delicate jobs and also a rotary sander. I spent 3 days, approx 30 hours prepping. Then painted my car in panels. Washed and quick waxed. The car looks very good. I know there are skeptics who believe a car can only be painted with a HVLP spray gun and a compressor. Well, with my hard work I have proven to myself that a good electric spray gun can do the same job. Remember, prepping, sanding with the right sand papers, using the right mix in the paint gun, good clear coating are some of the major factors to produce a good paint job. If I can do it so can you. Do some research and good luck. BTW, I had to choose music provided by YouTube's selection. BTW. . .The following is an excellent car painting video with details of all paint supplies. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXRD7mJ6hDE&feature=related

as you've proved, it's all in the prep work
-
How much did it cost?

Sweet !!! looks like my S430. A van rolled back and hit my front end about a year ago. No damage at the time but now you can see where the clear was cracked and now water has gotten underneath and cracked the paint. Just like on your car. I also have a small dent in the rear on the curve of the trunk that flaked the paint and is now starting to rust. other than these two small areas my car is impeccable! I am wanting to attempt the repairs myself but should I?

awesome job! thanks for proving an airless sprayer will work for body work. i've read hundreds of threads saying it's no good and this video just made it. you have any other videos of the whole body respray or perhaps any photos on website?
-
What is your email address ? I will email you some photos of the whole body job. Don't just assume something that you don't know.

This is fake. He never painted the hood in the video.

Retloth this is Ken with the SS El Camino I did a door off the car and it came out great I just added reducer until it shot wet but didnt record the mixture ratio it might have been to much reducer though. I had one question my local paint dealer told me not to thin out the clear no more than 10% with reducer as it will make the clear look cloudy how do you think it will shot on in this ratio of 10% reducer? and if you advise me to use more what ratio should I use. I am using U-POL clear?

No danger as long as you make sure no one is smoking, or no fires, no candles are lit nearby. No faulty electrical outlets which are exposed. Just use common sense, I guess. But please do some research, paint on your garage wall for practice. Also, please be careful with clear coat. Thinner is better. Test which ratio is good for you.

Hello this Is Dave again with the SS El Camino. I was wondering about the safety of spraying the automotive paint we use, my question is would there be a danger of explosion since the spray gun is electrical?
-
Also, please take care with the clear coat mix. It should be thin. Also the room temperature should be above 25*C or 80*F.

Thanks Dave. 1970 SS El Camino is a sweet car. I would not advise you to paint it yourself if you are not confident. If you do then please practice on a piece of sheet metal or your garage wall first to see what your sprayer can do. It can cover all the nooks and crannies. However, paint mix, pressure, distance etc. are very important. Wipe all your walls, floor etc with water, so there's no fine particles. Please also read all my comments below. Good luck.

Nice going! had a question I want to spray my 1970 SS El Camino panel by panel with the same eletric sprayer concerning the roof, side panels they all are inner connected do you think that eletric sprayer can endure that much coverage at one time? Thanks.
-
@ Retloth. Thank you. Please read all my comments on this video before proceeding. It takes a lot of understanding before shooting paint. Good luck.

@jimbrewer18 Wagner Control Spray Indoor / Outdoor, Electric spray gun for "small jobs" like Woodworking, Staining and Refinishing. Actual Model # 0417274 from Home Depot. But please make sure to prep throughly with different sand paper. Start off with a thicker guage and work upto very fine one like a 600. Please don't use the Viscosity measurer. Just mix the paints 1:1 with reducer. Spray less, but with more coats until desired finish. 4:1 ratio for clear coat and hardener. Good luck.
-
@Tommy92L I sprayed around 1 foot away. However, I practiced "alot" on my garage wall and other surfaces before I shot the paint. A lot of practice and prepping.

@johnnychampion1 Thank you!
