Well, the actual bathroom renovation is on the other side of this wall. This side of the remodel is the kids bedroom, but it's way easier to film this side. I will be applying the same orange peel, in the same exact way, on the bathroom walls as well. The first thing you have to do when you spray orange peel texture, for those of you learning how to texture walls for the first time, is mix up your texture. I use a 5 gallon bucket and one of these mixers. To spin the mixer I use a corded drill. I guess you could use a cordless drill, but the corded drill is a little more powerful and it doesn't run out of batteries. I also wouldn't want to burn up a drill mixing drywall texture. So I opt to use my corded. The instructions on this particular bag of texture say to add water and mix until all of the lumps are worked out. I mixed for about 10 minutes, until it was like cake batter. Then, it's time to let it stand for 15 minutes and set up. This part is important if you want the texture to hold a nice shape when you apply it to the wall. If it's too wet it can dimple or droop. I hope this article is helping you understand how to texture walls, let me know if it isn't. MATERIAL: The spray orange peel texture that I'm using here is by Blue Line, that's the brand. It's perfect for texturing walls. And it's what I spray when I do a knockdown or orange peel drywall texture. Sometimes in a pinch I will use a lightweight all purpose for an orange peel, but I prefer the Blue Line texture. It's important that you get the mix right between the water and texture, so take your time and follow the instructions on the bag. SETTING UP THE HOPPER: The next thing you do when you are learning how to texture walls is set up another bucket so that you can hold your Hopper vertical. When you're orange peel texture spraying, being able to fill up the hopper is important. Then you pour the texture into the hopper, you want to put just enough so that you are not overloaded with weight. What happens is that it gets really heavy and hard to carry around. With your hopper full, now you're ready to spray orange peel texture. TESTING YOUR SPRAY: You have to spray a little bit of a test spray at first so that you know what it's going to look like. Orange peel texture spraying is a bit of an art, trust me. It can be knocked off the wall really easily with a trowel. Set the compressor to the right PSI, get the spray down to a texture on the wall that you're happy with, and texture you walls and ceiling. This part takes practice, but you'll get it. I have a tendency to go to light, and it shows up after it's dry. But if you take your time to spray an even orange peel texture, read and follow all the instructions on the texture and you hopper, I'm sure you'll be happy with the results.
