Learn more at http://bit.ly/aVWonA In this video, Native Instruments product specialist and Dubspot instructor DJ Endo shares a quick tip on how to use Traktor's built-in auto gain feature to make DJ mixes in Ableton Live. By using Traktor to detect volume differences between tracks in a mix, this method allows you to create smooth transitions between tracks in Ableton, eliminating the guesswork and the need to make detailed gain adjustments.

This would be great, but unfortunately Traktor's auto-gain function isn't accurate at all. Shame.

If im only using Traktor to record a mix, and i want the mix to sound as loud as i can without any distortion, and im using autogain, what levels (db) should i be setting the master volume & first track to? The problem im having is i get the tracks roughly the same volume, but when i listen back to a mix on an ipod, the overall mix is far quieter than a random dj podcast ive also downloaded. Cheers.

Hey Omas, thanks for pointing this out. You do want to be careful about raising the gain of the clips because like you said if you raise them too high they might distort. So be sure that your clips are not distorting and also make sure the volume faders in Ableton aren't distorting as well.

a question .. did you recorded this in Ableton as a mix out of traktor ? is there a automated way to record each track in Live on a new track when played out of traktor ?

Dubspot is located in NYC (Manhattan) and we have classes and I give private lessons as well. Also we have an online digital DJing with Traktor class as well.

There's a really good, yet very simple, VST plugin called LOUDMAX, which makes all different tracks the same volume really easily. But that's all it does.....ITS FREE!

a virus..

Do not use this method. It seemed to me that this works as well, but this method distorts tracks beyond shit.

@stktgqv sure is right I was desperately searching for a nice software to compose killer beats. And A friend of mine working with Axwell said this software is the bomb for big beats and crazy effects. i found it here >>> bit.ly/OMZ3CH?=jlxtwc

I've been watching your tutorials and Endo, you are the man!! Thank you for taking the time to make these vids and help the rest of us out with this enigma :) I have both Traktor Pro and Ableton 8. This helps tons!

@finjfluffer no

@edwardjones0000000 Yes - try getting all of the clips the right volume - the select ALL of the volume faders and turn them down until none of your levels are in the red. Let me know how that goes - Endo
-
@Omas1000 Yes I agree. I do not like the sound of ableton either. However you might be losing bass because your audio channel in Ableton is distorting. Make sure none of your levels are in the red - Endo

@MustHearMetallica I would contact Native Instruments tech support and tell them about your problem. Maybe there's a reason why this is happening.

i followed this tutorial and it turned out great, but when traktor says, lets say a song has +7.7 db, when i adjust that song in ableton to +7.7, the songs bass is ruined. Is it possible that traktor calculated wrong? Also what kind of warping do you use? I use complex which is great its just lots of tracks sound different in traktor than in ableton (lots of them sound better in traktor).

@6th818 I definitely do not recommend normalizing your tracks. This can have a negative effect on the audio. - Endo
