I have a boom pole but what do I use it on? I have no money, no actors, and no friends. Well technically, I HAVE friends, but none of them live near me. I must smell bad.
P.S. The rubber band thing. Fucking. Genius -
This is so confusing. You keep changing the damn measurements as you go!

Just made this. I extended the poles but they are now locked and will not shrink in length. Any ideas as to how I should fix this?

Hi Mike can you build a C-stand? I would love a hack!!
-
good one

Great idea. BTW, if you want to hide the pole wires and add some grip, you could use split foam tubing that is actually made to insulate pipes. Also found at Home Depot.
Keep up the good work. -
What mic being used

I just made this today and I'm having an issue with my shotgun mic not being long enough to make it through both sections of rubber bands. Is there any way for me to extend my microphone so it can fit through the whole stabilizer?

Screw Home Depot, go to Lowe's. (Sponsored by Lowe's)

Builds 25$ DIY-Boompole. Uses 1000$ NTG-8 on it.
-
$25, might as well get a real boom pole. Why do this to save just five or ten dollars
-
You can use a paint roller extension pole, too.

Thank you

Home Depot bit was eerily accurate. Also, great tip on the stabilization with the rubber bands! Will definitely use (I'm finally starting shooting my first film soon).

Question: If I am planning on operating a boom pole with a shotgun plugged into a zoom H5, where should the zoom H5 be mounted/kept. I dont want to put it in my pocket but mounting it on the pole would add unwanted weight. what are some good options for this simple issue.? Thank you
-
put a yellow rubber band on the tip of the mike so you can know where it is frame wise
-
not that it really matters but the threads on the telescoping pole are not the same as the threads on 1/2" pvc. It will screw in and it will stay relatively tight but they are not the same threads. I believe the universal threads on the extension poles are called 3/4' acme threads. I test fitted them in the store today and it seemed a pretty tight fit and everything but the threads are not the same.
