Great piece looks cute! For next time :) I know it sounds like a pain but get a cheap pair of rubber gloves and a cheap mask at Hm Dpt or somewhere so you dont inhale the fumes, they are toxic and are going in your lungs. The gloves will protect your hands and nails. I sometimes put grocery bags around my shoes if Im spray painting something larger, youd be shocked how coated your shoes get underneath walking around spraying something. And I lay my items on a piece of cardboard out back away from my house, I never spray indoors, too much overspray it goes everywhere like a cloud.

Spray painting outside is not a great idea. Bugs, leaves, pollen, etc, fall onto the furniture and are near impossible to remove without ruining the coat of paint. A well-ventilated indoor area is best--wear a ventilation mask as well. Inside, you can keep the paint clean and you have better control of the spray paint since the spray isn't subject to wind direction.
Also, I've found that 15 minutes between coats is way too short a time with spray paint. Spray paint is almost universally an oil-based paint (yours definitely is since you mentioned that it was Rustoleum), so it will need more time between coats. A couple hours should do it--otherwise it'll take many months to completely cure, whereas adequate drying time between coats can shorten the curing time down to a week. This is especially important with glossy spray paints so that you don't end up with streaks of flashing.
Also, the clear coat you put on is unnecessary with glossy spray paint. If you used semi-gloss, the clear coat may make it a little shinier, but then you might as well have used glossy paint in the first place. The clear coat will not make it any shinier than the highest gloss paint. Also, whenever possible, clear coat should be avoided because it can absolutely ruin a perfectly good paint job. If the paint job isn't properly dried, the clear coat will actually pull the paint off the furniture. Finally, clear coat needs to be sanded between coats, or you're likely to end up with imperfections. -

Thank you! I was planning on buying a paint sprayer and trying to figure out how to paint some furniture I was given for my daughter's room. I will try this tomorrow. I've already primed and sanded said furniture, which took forever with a variety of paint brushes. There is so much detail in the dresser I'm painting.
Do you sand between coats of the spray paint?
Please wear gloves and a mask! I'm a respiratory therapist and inhaling dust can affect you in the long run. Besides, you've got a great manicure, don't spoil it! -
