Before and after painting oak kitchen cabinets white high gloss DIY job VALSPAR PAINT

Before and after painting my kitchen cabinets high gloss white with Valspar Ultra Paint + Primer from Lowes. Alright, there is no before and after, but you can see what it looks like before it is painted white by seeing the parts that have not been painted yet. I went with high gloss for wipe ability.

Yeah... you prepped (sanded and taped off) all those cabinets (removing the door and drawer hinges and pulls) and painted 2 coats on everything in 2 weekends.
...and all this without a cape or an S on your chest. Right. -
I have a kitchen with cabinets that look like a doctors office (circa 1990's). Can I do anything to update without replacing?

I have a question about your camera rig. Are you using some kind of stabilizer? Seems like the video moves smoothly. Now the camera you are using...well, that leaves something to be desired as it has that jello effect. Thanks.

I have a question for you, did you clean, sand and prime before painting on the actual white paint and primer combo?
Looks great!!! -
Very helpful to show the difference. You didn't paint the inside!?!?
-
very nice. I am having a professional do mine; as I dont have time, too much going on right now! Yours look very nice, great job!
-
what a waste of a video, nothing learned.

Did you sand the cabinet before painting? I have similar cabinets and want to know if I can just paint over them without scuffing up.

It's kind of shame that oak is not in style anymore. Believe me, styles change. I remember back in the 70's, and buying painted wood furniture or other wood products. While I was removing the finish, I would wonder why did they paint that beautiful wood. This would include oak I was far from alone in that sentiment. The thing about painting the wood, once you do it, it is VERY hard to remove the paint completely.
One thing to try instead of painting is to put a polyurethane plus stain to give the cabinets a richer appearance. This means just cleaning and lightly sanding the finish. Maybe going over with a deglosser to make sure that you have gotten into the nooks and crannies making a surface that will bond to the new finish. Don't sand completely through the old finish. The old finish acts as a sealer. Then, you apply the Polyshades I think the product is called. You can build up the product in layers until you get the color you want. The grain still comes through but, has a richer color. -
Are you a fan of Chuck Norris?
-
I would invest in buying replacement doors, the pre paint doors look better to me.
Sorry about this but sometimes people do a paint job and it's looks very DIY.
Hope you got professional advice on paint otherwise this will become a nightmare in the years to come. -
Best part of the video....Chuck Norris on the fridge!

niche ideas..

We have those exact same cabinets and they were installed in our new home 8 years ago. They still make them. I want to change them to a darker color.
-
Very nice , like it allot !
Did you use Ultra White ? Is it the highest gloss ?
Good luck ! -
I would have just restored the wood cabinets myself, but it looks good
-
Was that Chuck Norris on your fridge?!
-
Did you use the primer / sealer first? Or did you use it after you painted with the ultra white ?
Silly question, I know...but still. -
Nice job but I would have pulled all the doors off, laid them out and sprayed them in one hit. Save time, better finish. Not overly expensive hiring an airless sprayer if you don't have one.
