it's so sad how contractors are like that. and they still taking a lot job charging like crazy !
I am a general contractor, I take my time doing the job just perfect, but still not getting that much jobs even when I have low prices, well that's the live.
OK sorry about your ( contractor job) I am sure you did something to fix your issue
J & L general contracting. have a great day -
I would buy a couple more cans of orange and spray everything that is bare and say cover the paint. Also spray anywhere that is not thick enough. This job looks like they were trying to save money on material. Nice basement you have there btw.

Wow, the applicator obviously didn't care about his job or doesn't know what he is doing. I hope they came back and fixed these problems.

I have a couple questions for you in private about this video how can I contact you?
-
Dang dude that bites. I think companies that do a bad job like this should have their names posted and your experience with them promoted or mentioned on some type of media so people know of their poor performance.

Looks like 12 yr old sprayed it. Poor gun control looking at the pattern. tsk tsk.

Should have put on the Spray foam first, then installed studs Sheetrock any place you could. I take it most the Rim Joist rest on the concrete foundation walls.
And almost none of the 2x4 walls hold up any load. Had it been done first you would have gotten a better job, Just my 2 cents looking at what you have showed, with in mind the staircase might have been one point you may have had problems with. But this looks like New Construction so even that could have been taken care of with proper planing. -
I spray Foam Every Day... Yes They did a terrible Job.. Either They Went Super Fast or Just a Stupid Kit... This does not look like high Pressure Spray Foam.. With Closed Cell Foam You Do Not Need To Go past the Studs.. 3 inches is Plenty.. BUT You can NOT have Gaps .. Seams... Holes and Such...

first problem is customer expecting 2" to do the job....some of the areas he wants done and that were missed look like there wasn't access for sprayer to put the 2" he wants....so sprayer has to fill area with foam to insure it is insulated proper but customer only paying for 2". so sprayer has to make decision to either insulate properly or do the best he can to give the cheap ass his 2"

Well, if things are worth doing its worth doing twice, hast makes waste
-
The foam is made to go past the studs then they trim it! watch other vids

I do this for a living it's truly upsetting the work that was done. understanding a thermal envelope is important and all the areas you pointed out are crucial sorry bud this happened hopefully they made it right
-
May I ask what they charge you per sq ft and was it open or closed
I'm thinking of getting my new home done thanks !!! -
To be clear I am not defending the contractor at all below. If you are hiring any contractor there are things you need to do when selecting a contractor other than price. I am not stating that price was your main reason for choosing your contractor but in the past it has been for many others. I know you said he had good reviews but of all the estimates was he the cheapest spray foam contractor? Is he licensed with the state or county? Does he have SPF certifications? Did you ask for a current issuance certificate? If the job is large ask to named additional insured. It cost money to do the right job and maintain a legitimate company. The material is expensive and the talent pool for a spray foam techs is low. There are not many people out there to choose from with experience. Another added expense for the company (proper training). Some spray foam company's need to learn how to bid their jobs right. A representative (estimator) from the company should of done a walk through and seen some of the problem area's ahead of time and discussed a solution. I am not sure what equipment they were using. Graco (most popular) spray foam guns can't bend and get in every corner but there are solutions and techniques. After the job was completed a representative from the company should of done a walk through to catch the errors before the crew departs. There were way too many. Did they educate you and warn you that you should not enter the sprayed room for 24 hours from completion? Don't be breathing that in! I did not see windows to vent so even if they brought a machine it could still take 12 hours or more. depending on the manufacturer. Most are 24 hours. Be smart unless you have the proper mask don't enter until its safe too. After the time passes and the particle settles the room is 100% safe. Use an Icynene spray foam installer next time. Icynene will only sell foam to a trained and licensed company.

that sucks, I come across work like this all the time. a lot of people don't realize how important is the installer you hire. Thank you for raising awareness @ cphansen

Interesting, based on your flag demonstration in a lot of areas it looks like theres hardly any foam at all (basically just coated concrete). I cant help but notice though, that even in the acceptable areas there is only about an inch of foam or less. I could be wrong, but Im just guessing this based on how much of the stud is visible throughout the entire basement. According to most of the foam spec websites that is like a 5-7 R value?!?! Spray foam is NOT cheap and I am just curious (and ignorant on the topic) on how this is even worth it? most of the SF installations I have seen they cut the excess at the stud making it flush and you get the benefit of the full 4 (3 3/4) inches. Was this something settled upon beforehand? Also would like to know what progress you have made to get them to fix these very obvious issues.

so are the imperfections fixed now?
