3 reasons why you should use relative mode (ABS vs REL)
Tricks, Ratschläge, Online, Reparieren, Landwirtschaft, Landwirtschaft Maschine
Your DVS (Digital Vinyl System) can be used in different play modes. The main modes in Serato, Traktor and Virtual DJ are Absolute (ABS) and Relative (REL). I will explain the major difference between these modes and share 3 reasons why i use Relative mode and why you should/could use it too. I will be releasing a full length indepth video about ABS, REL and INT mode in Serato this weekend so stay tuned for that! Absolute mode is the closest you can get to real vinyl. Your control vinyl will work the same way as regular vinyl, meaning that the song you load into your virtual deck will always start at the beginning of your control vinyl. In order to play your song from the start, you will have to place your needle at the beginning of your control vinyl. When you use Absolute mode your hot cue and loop functions will not work. In Relative mode it's a different story. Now the position of the song does not depend on the position of the needle, meaning that any part of your control vinyl can be the starting point of the song you load into your virtual deck. This changes the way you can DJ because it allows you to work faster and use extra functions like your hot cues and loops. hey tlm I'm really late on this but i started with a midi then moved to turntables with serato personally for partys i use the midi and at home i practice with vinyl for that oldschool feel I've thrown a party in my yard and oh lord just the few crates i have made me think how much a workout it was other then that i think it's great to do it how ever u like if you watch a roc raida video you'd see at a dmc contest he has a sticker on his digital vinyl then just cues on the sticker each time He's about to loop during a battle

I don't like relative mode for basically one reason: if you do trick mixing/turntablism you usually use 2 copies. To identify the parts you mark you're records (like 12 o clock position you know what I mean). This only works in absolute mode. You're right with the loops but that's the only situation I use relative mode. Just my 2 cent ;-)

THese vids are great I am new to serato and it is helpful. Thinking of opening a new channel just for DJing now

Hi DJTLM, I'm new to this just got the DDJ-SX2, I'm curious where do I find the ABS mode/REL mode? I haven't been able to locate. Thanks for your help.

Im a Big Fan!!!!! You have great information on a Great channel!!!!

Excuse me for correcting you djTLMtv but unless things have changed with new Serato Vinyl 2.5 records, your explanation in your video from 2:15 to 2:35 is incorrect. You say that even when you move the needle back to beginning of CV (control vinyl) it will play as normal; well we should clarify that when the needle is moved to the beginning of the record, the CV starts your loaded song back to the very beginning of the song automatically. Keep up the great vids, thanks.

Hi have you released the in depth video about ABS, REL & INT mode yet?
-
Greetings. I'm DJ Seegul and I also use relative. I want to know why I switch from relative to internal then I have to do some weird trick on my 1000's to get out of it.
Can you please assist? Thanks in advance -
Hi guys,
I've been extremely busy with different projects, gigs and private life and as a result I was not able to make new video's in the last two weeks. I'm back in the lab right now and the new video's are dropping asap!
Thanks for the support and patience.

hi TLM CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW YOU START a song when using REL with cdjs without touching your laptop if its a new song and you had not set the cue point.also this happen to me i have set the cue point and i really want that song to start at that point but when i pause it or hit cue it still plays continuously not from 1st cue point if you get what i mean.."just hired a new gear for practicing been using controllers and virtual dj.."

DJTLM, your tutorials are really good especially for starting off DJ's. I've been DJ'ing for maybe 5 months now just at home. I have 2 Technics 1210s and Serato Scratch Live. I enjoy using ABS as I can physically see on the record where a certain point is. I think it is more visually exciting if people are watching you and I feel like I am really DJ'ing. Using the computer only it feels like I'm cheating in a way but I agree Relative has more options for looping and cue. I just loop using needle placement on ABS but it is a bit of hit and miss, sometimes. Your point about wear and tear on the control records is a good one and the needle getting bumped or shocked and skipping the record. Do you think I should keep practicing in ABS mode for a few more months and switch to REL mode or to do this now????

I use rel for speed. You're right. When you get to the hype part of your set, you don't wanna waste any time
